I've waited a long time to finally try sky cycling. I remember I vowed to do it years ago when I found out it was in Davao but never really got to doing it. I didn't get the chance! Two weeks ago, I dragged my sister, mother, and Reiko to Eden Nature Park. I didn't want to leave until I try sky cycling. ;)
When I first visited Eden Nature Park, it was for a field trip in college and there was no sky cycling yet. I was so thrilled to be back!
Eden Nature Park
- A mountain resort 3,000 feet above sea level
- 95% man-made
- Used to be a logged-over area covered only by wild grass some time in 1971
- Terraces were carved out of the mountain slope
- Thousands of pine tree seedlings were planted
- Over 100,000 pine trees today, spread throughout 80 hectares
- Pine trees provided canopies for other trees & plants to grow, creating a secondary forest
Eden Nature Park & Resort offers a variety of attractions and adventures. Today I'm going to share our Sky Cycle adventure!
It was a Saturday so there were relatively many people by 10 am but the rides area was not crowded at all. There are 3 rides offered so far - Skyrider, Skyswing, and Skycycle. I opted to try the Skycycle because that's what I really planned. Skyrider is their version of zipline and since theirs is not very challenging, I skipped it. Hehe.
My sister, her friend, and I went riding together. We had to sign a waiver first signifying that ifever we get stuck in our bikes up in the air, we're on our own. Nyahaha! Jk. I had to leave Reiko with my mother because only riders were allowed to enter the Skycycle area. We had to ask the attendants to take photos of us. I think they're used to it.
Just when we were prepping, I was already very, very excited and thrilled!!! Haha! I couldn't wait for our turn. When it was our time, and while I wasn't quite emotionally prepared yet, the attendant pushed me on my way to the cable! Hahaha, okaayyy so there's no turning back anymore. Sheeessh.
I'd say it was thrilling. I cannot and I'm not going to explain how it all technically works. But basically, you will bike through a 60-feet high and 200-meter long cable, then return to where you've started once you've reached the end.
Not for the faint of heart I should say. While I was there, all I could think of was to concentrate and make sure I wouldn't fall. I mean... you most likely won't, God forbid; there's a harness and all sorts of attachments. Lol, but during the return ride, I did feel like I was falling to the right side. Haha!
*I still had the guts to smile, although I swear I felt like falling by this time of the ride! Hahaha!
When you're there, you just have to keep pedaling. It was quite a long ride but you don't have to exert too much effort. I think the key is to not panic and just keep working the pedal. You can bike at your own pace! It was a chilly day so I could really feel the wind gently blowing. I had to tell myself to relax and just enjoy the ride (and focus).
My dear Reiko wanted to try the Sky Swing (photo below). Brave enough, huh? Skyswing will lift you at a maximum height of 95 feet, minimum of 60 feet. You can choose your desired height. But of course, Reiko's too young to try it. I wanted to try it too! But ah, maybe next time.
I had him ride this horsey instead and promised that we would spend time at the playground.
We had brunch at their super cool & cozy restaurant too!
